UK Trip: London 9

I started off the day by going to St. Martin in the Fields to pick up something for my grandmother.

Then I headed back over to the Serpentine to try again to find the gallery and the installation that my mum wanted me to photograph.

The day was absolutely gorgeous in the sunshine department, but it was wickedly hot. :/

Baby swan! D'awww!

And there is the Princess Diana Memorial Fountain Waterpark.

I found the Gallery. But when I went inside it was closed. So I was wondering how I was going to photograph the installation.

What my mum neglected to specify to me was that the installation wasn't inside the Serpentine, it was beside the Serpentine. So I had no idea that what I was actually looking for was this building here. On a hunch I walked inside.

Only to find that it wasn't open to the public and this was actually the media release. I snuck in with my sizeable camera and snapped this picture of the inside before escaping to the inner corridors.

After that, I walked back across the park and got on the tube.

I went over to catch the changing of the guards. It was now blisteringly hot out. I was not too thrilled.

Really crowded and no shade.

While I was there I overheard some American tourists discussing who they thought lived in Buckingham Palace. Their conversation went down like this:

American 1: So who lives here again?
American 2: I dunno, like the Queen. And a... Prince?
American 1: Didn't one of them get married?
American 2: -turns to me- You would know.
Me: Wha?
American 2: Who lives here? You're from here right?
Me: Um no? I'm from Canada.
American 2: Oh whoops. Nevermind.

...I was wearing my driving cap I bought in Scotland, so perhaps that's why they thought I was British? I have NO idea.

When I noticed this I was amazed. They had a button for people on horseback too! XD

Went back over to Camden to pick up a few things. Then I went to pick up Ritchie from school and take him on an adventure.

We raced down to the Thames to catch the last tour boat of the day.

On a side note, I totally wanted to go and see that. Whatever it was.

Ritchie had a pretty fun time. He was more interested in the cabin where the captain was steering the boat and kept asking me questions about all the levers and knobs.

The boat took us all the way from the London Eye to the Tower Bridge. We saw this amazing battleship on the way!

Ritchie just loves making goofy faces for every picture. :)

Then it was time to head back home after hanging out in the harbor and watching the boats.
Next post: London: Final day!

  1. Yes! Something to distract me of a worthwhile nature! Can hardly wait to see if Ai Wei Wei and Herzog & De Meuron make something more exciting as a pavilion from the exterior :)

    1. Wouldn't be too hard to make something more exciting.
